on vulnerability // our different sameness

I feel oh-so-honored to have been invited to participate in a project with a very talented group of photographers across the world. Each month, we’ll be exploring our differences and our sameness through our photographs. The first theme of the year is on vulnerability – this is just my portion of the project, so please be sure to take a look at what my friends came up with when you’re done here.

vulnerability is to open your heart, your soul
to speak your mind when it goes against everyone else’s
to put yourself out there
waiting, in limbo
for something, anything to happen
for someone to accept you
but being scared of the inevitable rejection
and sometimes the worst thing
is when nothing happens at all

vulnerability is when
your head is above the water
but below the surface, where no one can see
you feel the currents pulling you down
your only savior is to strip away
the illusion you’ve created
to be honest
and ask for help

vulnerability
is wondering if you’re even reading this
if my images make you feel anything
but doing it anyways
even if i’m not good enough
even if nothing ever comes from it
because it makes me happy

interesting water textures

vulnerability is dangerous
yes, you’re easily hurt when you tear down your walls
but this is also the heart of connection
where you will meet kindred spirits
and where you will listen to your heart instead of your brain
and start a revolution within yourself

being vulnerable is necessary
a major component of change
the only way to move forward.

If you read all of this, THANK YOU. Please go to ourdifferentsameness.com and explore the beautiful ways the group interpreted this month’s theme. Your eyes will thank you!
