A post-wedding ritual for these two to seal their love with the beauty of the PNW. Whidbey Island at sunset is otherworldly.
This Summer Solstice Whidbey Island Destination elopement is actually a mash up of a bridal session + adventure elopement. Beth + Connor already had their proper wedding back in Wisconsin, where they and their families are from. But they also wanted to have something to commemorate their lives together here in the PNW (+ this killer scenery). So when they got home from their proper nuptials, we hopped on a ferry and adventured off on this magical unicorn of a day. This was one of those sessions where I needed to pinch myself to make sure I was actually awake.
If you've never been to Whidbey Island, you've gotta change that ASAP. I mean, I say that about a ton of places here, but it's true. This place reminds me of another country, which makes it all the more interesting. It's a small island with a quaint small town feel, surrounded by some of the most gorgeous water views.
We did Beth + Connor's engagement session at Hurricane Ridge a couple years back, so I already knew they were adventurers and free spirits. They're outdoorsy, down-to-earth and so much fun to photograph! They brought their wedding vows to make this day about more than just a photo session. Since they were already legally married, they didn't need an officiant. Just the words that affirm their love for each other.
Beth loved her dress -- from designer Haley Paige, of course -- and just wanted to twirl, dance, and hike in it. And she did just that! Those are some bridal priorities I can get onboard with. Connor was a little more hesitant to frolic with abandon, since custom suits and frolicking don't typically play nice together. And that's okay, because he still looked amazing. We ended our session just before official sunset, and managed to be the last two cars on one of the last boats back to Port Townsend for the night.
With places and people like these, I'm so humbled by what I get to do. Thanks Beth + Connor, for always making it fun!
