A sweet afternoon ceremony on the bluff overlooking the Salish Sea with just their closest friends and family.

A breathtaking view of the Salish Sea, a salty breeze, an intimate gathering atop a simple bluff. This is the beautiful scene that Hallie & Owen chose for their intimate wedding day in Port Townsend. And it was perfect.

On that day, everything seemed to align flawlessly. The weather is always a toss up here in April, but theirs was one of the most beautiful, sunny days all month. There was a crisp chill in the air, reminding us that no matter how much the sun soaked us in its rays, we were still rooted in the Pacific Northwest.

They started by taking a moment together, privately, away from the crowd, to set their intentions. It was the sweetest and most emotional moment! As a photographer, I love this idea because so many couples feel more anxious and performative on the altar. Everybody is watching, all eyes are on you. But when it’s just the two of you, you have this unwritten permission to be completely absorbed in the moment, in the meaning, in the feelings. The most important stuff.

After they greeted their joyful crew of family and a few close friends, they casually walked up to the altar, where Owen’s best friend did the honor of solemnizing their vows. Eagles soared overhead, as if to say they gave their blessing, and the waves crashed into the shores to applaud the magical moment. Intimate Port Townsend weddings are always gorgeous, but daaaamn.

Their story started with water - they met while both lifeguarding in college. And on this day, that moment came full circle as they embraced this journey of togetherness, surrounded by water. Intimate weddings and elopements are a profound way to escape the expectations of a traditional wedding and instead create a deeply personal and meaningful experience. In this fast-paced world, where everything is in constant motion, their wedding showcased the beauty of going slow. No rush. No major distractions. Just genuine connection between them and their best people. Being completely present in the moment.
